PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Director of the Mother Teresa Project provides overall leadership and strategic vision for the Mother Teresa Project, cultivating and developing relationships with service providers in the Immokalee and Naples area, and with other Catholic groups both local and abroad, creating and implementing a four year, developmentally appropriate program in order to preserve and spread the legacy of the life of Mother Teresa by immersion of the students in the spirituality of Mother Teresa through a program of formation and service (domestic and international), establishment of a center of devotion to Mother Teresa in the Mother Teresa Exhibition Hall, and support research and advocacy of life, family and marriage issues.

The primary duty includes the development, planning, implementation, administration, and evaluation of the Mother Teresa Project service-learning program (including student mission trips, local outreach) and management of the Assistant to the Director of the Mother Teresa Project, and Management of the Mother Teresa Exhibition Hall.  The Director provides oversight for the program of formation including trainings, lectures, and retreats. The Director reports to and assists the Director of Campus Ministry in organizing and running campus retreats and facilitating events.

The Director will support campus objectives for student placement and Institutional Advancement by cooperating with the Office of Admissions and Advancement by offering guided tours of the MTPEH to prospective students and donors, and capitalizing on opportunities presented to the MTP when traveling (domestically and internationally) to make the University known to interested parties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

3. Manage the overseas travel arrangements, prepare agendas for mission trips, and be willing to accompany students on mission trips if necessary.

4. Establish and solidify the relationships with service providers in the Immokalee and Naples area.

5. Protect and nurture the relationship with the Missionaries of Charity and with other religious service organizations.

6. Manage the budget for the Mother Teresa Project, and review, approve and pay invoices prepared by the Manager of the Exhibition Hall and the Assistant to the Director of the MTP, or by preparing and submitting check requests for approval to the President for payment of goods and services received by the Mother Teresa Project. Collect and analyze program data and provide ongoing reports as needed.

7. Assist the University interests by creating opportunities for synergistic values with the Offices of Advancement and Admissions through guided tours at the Exhibition Hall and contacts with Catholic Schools if possible during Immersion trips.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Prior experience in management and program development, service learning, mission outreach and/or virtue and spiritual formation of youth preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Demonstrated strengths in leadership, organization, and communication. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be willing and able to travel locally, nationally, and internationally. Must be able to work flexible hours; may require evenings and weekends. Knowledge of computer software. Ability to speak in front of groups. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and measure results. Commitment to the mission, values, goals and plans of Ave Maria University as a Catholic higher education university as expressed in Ex Corde Ecclesiae.

 

Microsoft Office software experience should include Word and Excel. Conversational Spanish is helpful.
PHYSICAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Depending on the assignment, may require ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to travel; the ability to stand, walk and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10 – 50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read technical information.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed primarily indoors with some potential for exposure to safety and health hazards related to electronics work.  Will require occasional travel and work outside of regular work schedule for some mission trips and special events.
