Overview
Belmont Abbey College announces a search for a Director of Residence Life at a point of significant strategic growth. This position is responsible for the overall residential experience of over 1000 residents in 9 residence halls and will provide guidance and leadership to the Office of Residence Life staff members. Additionally, the position oversees the Student Government Association (SGA) and is responsible for the residential on-campus student conduct and care process. The position reports to the Vice Provost & Dean of Student Life and is a key member of the Student Life team. The Director of Residence Life will perform the duties of the position and other tasks assigned for the good of the College community.
The successful candidate will have at least three (3) years progressive experience in residence life management, student disciplinary procedures, and residential community development and a Master’s degree in higher education, counseling or another relevant field.. The ideal candidate must understand, support, and value the building of a residential and student community dedicated to a robust Catholic vision and the hallmarks of a Benedictine education. The Director of Residence Life must have strong relationship building skills, a strong moral compass and experience in building strong relationships with other offices on campus. Knowledge of and experience in Title IX investigations is required for this position.
The Director must at once be a valiant spokesperson for student life grounded in a Catholic, Benedictine character, and also be able to communicate policies, procedures, and the values of the institution to a broad spectrum of students who may be unfamiliar with those values. The Director of Residence Life should have an understanding of and enthusiasm for bringing about the principles of Ex Corde Ecclesiae through the on-campus experience.
The successful candidate will have an exemplary work ethic, be able to motivate Residence Life staff and students, understand the “big picture” while also not afraid to roll up his or her sleeves to do the organizational work that will build a residential student community that nourishes the mind, body, and soul of the whole student.
