Franciscan University, founded in 1946 by friars of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Province of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis of Penance, is one of the nation’s premier Catholic universities, integrating excellent academic programs with a dynamic faith environment to serve 2,500 students from all 50 states and 17 countries on campus and an additional 1,000 students online. The Criminal Justice Program seeks a non-tenure track Assistant Professor or Instructor to commence the Spring term of 2026. Rank is commensurate with degree and experience. The option for a transition to tenure track status for the position will be evaluated after one year of service and will be dependent upon terminal degree completion. Faculty at Franciscan are expected to advise and mentor students; to assist in the moderatorship of clubs and organizations; to actively participate in recruitment efforts for both undergraduate and graduate programs and to be active players in the department’s Center for Criminal Justice, Law and Ethics.
The ideal candidate possesses a PhD in an aligned field or other degree dependent on curricular offerings. Faculty teach a 4-course load and engage in scholarship that compliments both the department and university. Faculty need adhere to the tenets of our Judeo-Christian heritage and advance the mission of Franciscan University of Steubenville.
