Schedule:  Full Time – M-F, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; some evenings and weekends as needed

The Director of Community Relations is responsible for building and maintaining a positive and meaningful relationship between the University and the Ohio Valley community through the strategic engagement of community leaders and entrepreneurs. The Director engages through events, programs and communication, to foster a culture of engagement, community partnership and philanthropy to advance the University’s vision of becoming the leading instrument for worldwide renewal at the service of the Catholic Church.



·        Creates and implements a strategic engagement plan for the Ohio Valley, which is aligned to serve the goals of Advancement, and the broader vision and strategies of the University through increased Community Engagement and support of the University, moving key community and business leaders from attraction, to connection, to affection, to influence. Establishes metrics for determining success of engagement. Initiates strategic listening opportunities between community stakeholders and the broader University community for the purpose of informing the University. Provides proper feedback channels to and from the Ohio Valley community.

·        Identify meaningful stakeholders to serve and act on the Community Board of Advisors who can help move the University’s Mission in the Ohio Valley. Empower the Board to serve the community in the name of the University. Manage and serve the Board with meaningful engagement in support of the Mission of Franciscan University.

·        Lead and manage from start to finish key community engagement events including but not limited to the following: Baron Club Dinner and University Founder’s Day Dinner.

·        Provide leadership to the University’s local fund-raising efforts including identifying key community stakeholders, providing ongoing and demonstrated engagement of individuals moving them toward philanthropic support. Lead fund raising and planning efforts for community engagement projects including the Ice-Skating Rink

·        Act as a liaison with local government and business officials and cultivate meaningful and fruitful relationships with members of the local community. Articulate and represent the interests of the University in local and state civic, educational, cultural and political arenas. Promote University impact on the Ohio Valley. Be a leader in community projects and act as representative of the University.

Must understand, support, and embrace the mission of Franciscan University of Steubenville and possess the following:


Technical Skills

·        Computer Skills, Microsoft Office

·        Blackbaud NXT Proficiency for notation of personal engagement with local constituents

Non-Technical Skills & Competencies

·        Must understand, embrace, and possess a desire and ability to advance the University’s mission

·        Must possess excellent relationship building skills

·        Oral and written communication and presentation skills

·        Ability to manage and measure work including planning, organizing and follow-up

·        Management abilities, including motivation, delegation, persuasion, and accountability

·        Results driven and comfortable moving forward in the absence of direction


Education and Experience

·        Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred

·        Eight years of professional experience and five years proven leadership experience

·        Significant relationship cultivation experience

·        Experience relating to high profile boards and government officials

·        Possess a strong knowledge of the Upper Ohio Valley and Steubenville, Ohio, with existing relationships in the community

·        Event planning experience
