Faculty Position in Clinical Mental Health Counseling

Full-Time Faculty Position

The Clinical Mental Health Counseling Graduate program at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas, announces one full-time term (10-month) faculty position. Start date for the position August 15, 2022. We are seeking an individual who shares our vision for training highly competent and effective professional counselors who uphold the highest standards of the profession and sensitively engage the dialogue between faith and reason.

The Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) program prepares students to serve the community as licensed professional counselors (LPCs). Graduates of the Master of Science (M.S.) in CMHC meet the educational requirements of the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors (TSBEPC) for eligibility for LPC licensure. The M.S. in CMHC curriculum is also aligned with the national Clinical Mental Health Counseling master’s program standards established by CACREP, and the program is currently seeking CACREP accreditation.

The M.S. in CMHC program upholds the core values of the university and professional counseling, with a particular emphasis on the promotion of the highest standards of ethical, legal, and professional conduct; evidence-based clinical practice; social and cultural diversity; social justice and the dignity of all persons; and the ongoing dialogue between faith and reason. The program is poised for leadership in social justice advocacy in Houston, America’s most culturally diverse urban center. Further, the department fosters the growth of students, faculty, and staff, and faculty members receive supportive mentoring from senior faculty.

The position responsibilities include:

· Teaching 8 graduate-level courses per year (usually 4 per semester)

· Developing and carrying out a productive research agenda in clinical, supervision, or education issues in the professional counseling field

· Serving on departmental, school, and university committees

· Academic advising and mentoring of graduate students

· Participation and leadership in the profession

· Collection and dissemination of program information particular to accreditation

Applicants must:

· Possess an earned doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision or aclosely related field, preferably from a CACREP- accredited doctoral program

· Be licensed or license-eligible as a licensed professional counselor (LPC) inTexas

· Possess advanced clinical, supervision, and teaching skills

· Demonstrate the potential for an active and productive program of research

· Demonstrate emerging professional leadership skills in professional counselingand/or counselor education

· Demonstrate support for a diverse array of worldviews and faith traditions

· Demonstrate commitment to the Catholic Basilian mission of the University asexpressed in UST’s Mission Statement and Ex Corde Ecclesiae.
