Overview

The Department of Chemistry and Engineering is seeking a part-time visiting faculty position for physics. General responsibilities for the position include:

Teach 18 contact hours in physics and astronomy per academic year, including summer.
Develop introductory lecture and laboratory courses in Physical Sciences, as needed.
Teaching load will include both day and evening courses as needed.
A more detailed job description follows:

During the 2019 academic year, 6 courses (lectures and laboratories in astronomy and physics, 3 contact hours each, both daytime and evening). The specific physics and astronomy courses covered by this position will be identified based on the expertise of the person awarded the position. The primary teaching responsibility will be lower division astronomy and physics courses (both lecture and laboratory courses).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Teach 18 contact hours throughout academic year, primarily lower division physics and astronomy courses (both laboratory and/or lecture courses as needed).
Develop introductory lecture and laboratory courses, as needed, including an introductory Physical Science Lecture and Laboratory course for Fall semester 2019
Teach both day and evening courses
Offer at least four office hours per semester (including summer)
Supervisory Responsibilities:

May supervise student workers (TA’s).
Knowledge and Skills Required:

A Ph.D. in physics or astronomy.
A minimum of two years of teaching experience at the college level in physics or astronomy.
Ability to effectively communicate with, faculty, staff, and students.
Ability to set up and handle laboratory equipment both for astronomy and physics laboratories. This includes “hands on” laboratories using telescopes and other physics equipment for astronomy and laboratories.
Knowledge of using computers and computer programs in teaching labs, including interfaces to sensors and other equipment for data collection in introductory laboratories.
