Cultural Outreach Coordinator
The William J Flynn Center fosters cultural understanding and community engagement through diverse programs and initiatives. We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Cultural Outreach Coordinator to join our team and help us build bridges across cultures. The Cultural Outreach Coordinator would be responsible for helping to book and oversee roughly six annual events centered on Irish music, poetry, history, film, and art. All events will be open to the University and the public, so part of this role will include marketing the events in the Houston
area. The Cultural Outreach Coordinator will work closely with the Development Office at St.
Thomas, as well as the Center Director.
Our nationally and internationally renowned Flynn Center for Irish Studies is one of UST’s six Centers for Excellence and features academic, cultural outreach, and study abroad programs. We provide our students with a broad array of interdisciplinary courses taught by UST faculty. The Irish Studies program offers a minor in Irish Studies at the undergraduate level and a concentration in Irish Studies in the Master of Liberal Arts program at the graduate level. Most of our courses are open for the public to audit with the professor’s permission and space availability.

Job Summary:
The Cultural Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for developing and implementing outreach programs that promote awareness of Irish culture. This role involves working closely with Irish-related community organizations, schools, arts venues, and other stakeholders such as the St. Thomas student body, to create and deliver programs that celebrate
Irish cultural heritage fosters mutual understanding.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and execute outreach strategies to engage Irish communities across Houston – e.g. Houston Gaels, Irish Society Of Houston, Irish Network, Irish Women In Energy, Houston School of Irish Music.
• Plan and coordinate cultural events, workshops, and programs, including assisting with the annual Irish Gala and annual St. Patrick’s Day Mass and Brunch.
• Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, schools, and cultural groups.
• Conduct outreach activities to raise awareness about cultural programs and initiatives.
• Collaborate with internal teams within the Center and the University to ensure alignment
with organizational goals for outreach and the larger mission of the University.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of outreach programs and make recommendations for improvement.
• Prepare reports and presentations on outreach activities and outcomes.
• Manage outreach budgets and resources effectively.
Part-Time, Flexible Hours (combination of remote and then onsite at the Center as
needed for key meetings/events)
Qualifications:
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in community outreach, program coordination, or a related role in event planning
• Demonstrable understanding of and alignment with the mission of the University of St.Thomas
• Experience collaborating in teams, working with third parties, budgeting/planning
• Strong understanding of Irish culture, Irish identity in the USA
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Proficiency in marketing, social media platforms, and other forms of engagement
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed (for major events – 6-8 per year) Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working with community groups, or relevant experience in a non-profit or event planning
• Knowledge of local cultural organizations and resources.
