Executive Dean of the Peavy School of Nursing
The University of St. Thomas (UST), a private Catholic University committed to the liberal arts and the religious and intellectual tradition of Catholic higher education, located in Houston, Texas, near the vibrant central business district, Texas Medical Center, and museum district, is seeking applicants for the Executive Dean of the Peavy School of Nursing. The Executive Dean reports directly to the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Position Summary:
The Executive Dean’s primary responsibilities focus on strategic development of the School of Nursing, stewardship of the school’s mission and oversight of program quality and goal attainment. The Executive Dean will also serve as a catalyst to advance the Catholic mission and identity of the University of St. Thomas, increase enrollment and establish the Peavy School of Nursing as an exemplar in the formation of nurses for holistic healing ministries in the 21st century healthcare environment.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Guide strategic development of the SON through development and oversight of the SON strategic plan, in alignment with the university’s strategic goals and the PSON
Facilitate the conditions and relationships that support SON development as a holistic learning community guided by the SON holistic philosophy and healing
Support faculty and staff development, at the individual level and at the learning community level to advance contributions to scholarship, clinical inquiry and clinical
Provide strategic academic leadership at the university level in collaboration with the Vice- President for Academic Affairs, UST Deans and the University’s executive leadership
Create the conditions and relationships that promote operational effectiveness of PSON academic leadership, faculty and
Support faculty and staff development, at the individual level and at the learning community level to advance contributions to scholarship, clinical inquiry and clinical
Assure SON compliance with regulatory requirements and reporting, including UST requirements, Texas Board of Nursing, SACSCOC, CCNE and others as required by the
Demonstrated record of fiscal responsibility and accountability with a high degree of financial
Strong collegial leadership qualities demonstrated as ability to recruit and build a strong
Highly effective communication skills both verbally and in writing with proficiency in using a personal computer and generally utilized
Ensure the school operates within the approved financial parameters.
Provide academic leadership at the university
Work collaboratively with other deans, faculty, academic administrators, administration, and
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education:
Terminal degree in nursing with a solid reputation for excellence and scholarly achievement
Experience:
Minimum of five years of experience as a senior level administrator preferably as dean or associate dean
Minimum of five years of experience in the classroom
Proven ability to inspire, collaborate and negotiate with diverse and sometimes competing The individual must be a person who can lead and inspire the faculty to new levels of engagement in order to champion creativity and innovation.
Demonstrate a high degree of knowledge in accreditation
Be viewed as highly ethical, trustworthy, credible and respectful of diverse views and opinions and as someone who is known for building consensus and being a good
Highly effective communication skills both verbally and in writing with proficiency in using a personal computer and generally utilized
Being an active member in good standing in the Roman Catholic Church is required
