School of Graduate Theology

The University of St. Thomas (www.stthom.edu), a private Catholic university, located in Houston, Texas, the nation’s fourth largest city, committed to the liberal arts and to the religious and intellectual tradition of Catholic higher education, is seeking a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor of Theology. The position reports directly to the Division Dean, School of Graduate Theology in the School of Arts and Sciences.

Preferential consideration will be given to applicants who are members in good standing of the Roman Catholic Church.

The Assistant or Associate Professor of Theology serves the student population of teaching courses in Theology and/or Philosophy. The professor provides academic courses for undergraduate and graduate studies in the Roman Catholic Tradition, in faithfulness to the Magisterial teachings of the Holy See and Pontiff, and in support of the confessional teachings of the local Ordinaries. Critical to the position includes the ability to prepare Seminarians for pastoral ministry in the local church, to cultivate their faithfulness to the Magisterium and the local Ordinary, and to be able to convey to them the teachings of the Church for the People of God. The professor will teach classroom, flex, and online courses in the Department of Theology, located on the main campus of UST, and in the School of Graduate Theology, located on the remote campus of St. Mary’s Seminary, Houston.


The duties and responsibilities of the theology professor at UST require the highest standards of instructional excellence and commitment to the university.


Qualifications include: a completed doctoral degree (at least one graduate pontifical degree is highly preferred); experience teaching undergraduate and graduate students (preferred); competency in an online teaching environment; demonstrated skill in clear and efficient communication; must maintain appropriate confidentiality and work independently.
