Ave Maria University is accepting applications for a full time mental health Counselor. The University will also consider two part time candidates as well.
Reporting to the Director of Residence Life/Dean of Students, the Counselor provides direct clinical mental health counseling services to students in all university programs, including intake assessments, individual, couples, and group counseling, and crisis intervention. Counseling Services is a unit within the larger Division of Student Affairs at Ave Maria University that offers a range of confidential services to support the mental health needs of students, and provides outreach and prevention services to guide students in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides direct clinical services within a predominantly short-term model.
Performs risk assessment and crisis intervention.
Facilitates referrals to community providers for students requiring specialized or intensive, long-term treatment.
Develops and presents outreach programs to students on a variety of topics related to mental health and wellness.
Maintains accurate and timely documentation for all clinical interactions and consultations.
Follows policies and procedures consistent with state mental health laws and ethical guidelines.
Participates in continuing education and professional development activities consistent with state licensure requirements.
Participates in direct supervision and case consultation meetings.
Performs other job-related duties and special projects as required.
Master’s degree in psychology, mental health counseling, marriage and family therapy, or clinical social work.
Must be licensed in the state of Florida as a Mental Health Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist, or Clinical Social Worker, or able to secure licensure within one month of employment at Ave Maria University.
A minimum of two years of post- graduate experience is required. Experience providing counseling services in a university counseling center is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Expertise in clinical assessment, crisis intervention, and the prevention and evidence based treatment of mental health concerns relevant to a college population. Must have a strong commitment to the teachings of the Catholic Church and be committed to providing counseling services that are reflective of Christianity. Proficiency in using electronic health record systems, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
