Facilities Technician (Painting Specialty) Job Posting

Ave Maria University is seeking applications for the full time position of Facilities Technician with a painting specialty.

Reports To:  Director of Facilities Operations

The Ave Maria University (AMU) Physical Plant department manages 650,000 square feet of interior space, as well as grounds.      All members of the team have broad general skills and experience in repair, maintenance and construction in addition to one or more specialties (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, painting, grounds, etc.).  AMU Physical Plant is searching for a team member with the specialty of maintaining surfaces (painter)–including interior and exterior painting, power washing, and building envelope work such as sealing and flashings, etc.

Every member of the Physical Plant team has some involvement in all aspects of the repair and maintenance work of the department.
Must be able to set up and maintain a job site and perform work in safe and orderly manner.
Must be able to choose, use, and care for appropriate tools, equipment and supplies.
The painting specialization includes interior and exterior painting, power-washing, surfaces management (including drywall joint finishing, wall patching, plaster repair, and other) and building envelope work (including sealing, flashing, and other).
Must specifically be able to organize and maintain paint, painting equipment, and supplies for paint projects.
Must be able to operate a lift.
Must be effective at managing helpers and assistants.
Must be willing to provide after-hours support to overall Physical Plant duties when called upon.
Other duties as assigned.


Able to read and comprehend blueprints
Basic computer knowledge including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel) and other basic software tools (such as for work orders).
Able to perform the work in various types of weather conditions
Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time
Must be able to climb tall ladders
Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds
Must possess valid driver’s license and be insurable
Must be able to follow oral and written instructions
Must be able to follow and apply safety rules and regulations for job assignments and equipment used.
Must be willing to be trained as requested.
Must be able to work independently, collaboratively, and under supervision.
Detail oriented where neatness and organization are critical.
Ability to set up and work from ladders, scaffoldings, aerial platforms, lift platforms, etc.
Must be able to estimate equipment, supplies, costs, and timeline for completing projects.
Must support the University’s Catholic mission.

The ideal candidate will have 5-10 years experience of repair, maintenance or construction work in residential or institutional setting, including dedicated work as painter (or similar).
