Overview

Reporting to the Director of Career Services, the Career Advisor will provide career development services, both group and individual, including career counseling and exploration of life and career goals, challenges, and vocational opportunities. The incumbent will serve as a liaison, with internal and external stakeholders, in developing comprehensive, college-wide career services. The Career Advisor will coach students in developing workplace readiness skills to facilitate success in current and future career endeavors. The individual in this role assists students in all aspects of career development, including resume writing, cover letter composition, networking including the appropriate use of technology (e.g. LinkedIn), interview skills, job search, etc. as well as planning and presenting professional development workshops and supporting the first-year experience curriculum related to career exploration. The Career Advisor maintains online career exploration software tools, manages career development web resources. and regularly communicates with local employers regarding job opportunities for our students and alumni. Promotes the university by participating in local, state, and national events or meetings, and by developing partnerships with industry and/or professional associations.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in HR, Counseling, Student Development, Education, Business or other related area; with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in career services, HR or related workforce development or staffing services. Knowledge of career development and assessment techniques is preferred.  Experience with Focus 2 Assessment, Handshake, or other career management systems is a plus.  The position requires strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite; creativity; ability to multi-task; excellent communication, presentation and public speaking skills; and the ability to foster relationships with various constituencies.  The work environment is a general office setting which requires no strenuous physical activity.  The work schedule requires the ability to travel locally on demand and be willing to work outside of regular business hours occasionally.
