Overview
Belmont Abbey College is seeking an experienced Director of Counseling Services. The Director, who reports to the Vice Provost and Dean of Students, will provide vision and leadership to counseling and mental health efforts on campus and clinical counseling to students of Belmont Abbey College. This position serves students in multiple ways: through supervision of Counseling Center that provides individual to students, through crisis management leadership, and through continual programmatic endeavors designed to improve the health and well-being of students at Belmont Abbey College. This is an 11-month position.
The Director of Counseling works with other departments on campus to assist students, individually or in groups, with developing academic and personal/social skills, goals, and plans. The Director along with Counseling Center staff coordinates with individuals from Health Services, Athletics, Academics/Student Success, Residence Life, Campus Ministry, and Career Services to address the student in mind, body, and spirit.
The ideal candidate will have a Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field and a minimum of 2 years of experience in mental health counseling, preferably in a higher education setting. The position requires a North Carolina State license as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Knowledge of student development is required. Experience, certificate and/or experience working with substance abuse. The work environment is an office setting which requires on call and flexible work hours.
