Overview

Belmont Abbey College seeks PT Counselor.  The Counselor provides students of Belmont Abbey College a place to address issues of concern that may impede their ability to be successful in college.  The Counselor addresses emotional, psychological, and social concerns that may impact a student’s classroom performance and provides resources and referrals to assist students when needed.  The Counselor consults and collaborates with college administrators, faculty, staff, and other educational/community resources regarding students with identified concerns and needs.  The Counselor works closely with Health Services in recognition of the interrelationship between the mind and body.  The Counselor implements developmentally appropriate and prevention-oriented group activities to meet student needs and academic goals.

The ideal candidate will have a Masters’ Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field and a minimum of 2 years of experience in mental and/or behavioral health counseling, preferably in a higher education setting.  The position requires a North Carolina State license in Social Work or as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCSW or LCMHC).  Knowledge of student development is required. The work environment is an office setting which requires on call and flexible work hours, and some limited light travel for professional development opportunities and coordination with referral resources.  Preferences include experience working with student athletes, counseling trauma and substance abuse, understanding of Title IX, counseling mandated students, campus outreach and programming, and emergency behavioral situations.

The incumbent will consistently demonstrate skills, attitudes, and stable disposition of character to support our Catholic and Benedictine identity while fostering the development of mind, body, and spirit in our students, our staff and the greater community. Finally, candidates must have a sincere appreciation and acceptance of our Catholic approach to education and an understanding of Pope Saint John Paul II’s Ex Corde Ecclesiae.
