Overview

The Department of History, Anthropology, and Political Science in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Franciscan University of Steubenville, Steubenville, Ohio invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position—professorial rank dependent on experience—to begin in August 2026. Franciscan University is an academically excellent and passionately Catholic university in the Franciscan tradition, located 24 miles west of Pittsburgh, Pa. International Airport.

The ideal candidate could teach across these fields in political science: American politics/government, political philosophy, American constitutional law, and international politics. Some knowledge of and interest in Catholic social teaching is also important. Must possess a Ph.D. in political science. Primary stress is on undergraduate teaching, but the candidate must also have a commitment to ongoing research and publication efforts and other scholarly activity. Previous track record of publications is helpful. Must firmly support the University’s strong Catholic mission and be faithful to the Church’s teachings.  Duties may also include the directorship of the program, academic advising, advising student co-curricular political science club, and helping plan occasional Department-sponsored guest lectures on campus.
