The Manager of the University Store is the store’s leader and is accountable for all aspects of the store–financial results, operations, merchandising, talent acquisition, customer service, and University constituent relations (internal and external). Plan, organize, and direct the activities and outcomes of the University Store (in-store and on-location) and collaborate closely on eCommerce operations. Position will ensure excellence in team management, training, customer experience, collaborative partnerships, and financial results while creating customer/constituent experiences that enhance engagement and loyalty while delivering measurable results.



1.    Execute developed business strategies and identify opportunities to drive sales, increase customer satisfaction, and expand store traffic. Ensure elevated levels of customer satisfaction and sales through effective scheduling, talent acquisition, training, and development of Store team members.

2.    Develop effective departmental procedures in compliance with University policies; Encourage growth in each area of the Store by developing new procedures and improving present procedures; Manage funds and budget limits by coordinating and maintaining the annual Store budget; and Ensure a profitable operation for the University by making decisions using the profit and loss statement as a guideline. Analyze sales figures, interpret trends, and forecast future sales to manage all controllable costs and keep operations profitable.

3.    Develop effective partnerships with colleagues in a variety of University offices including, but not limited to Academic Affairs, Alumni, Athletics, Conferences, Student Life, Marketing & Communications, and Physical Plant.

4.    Spearhead the development, execution, and maintenance of communication and marketing plans directed towards students, faculty, staff, alumni, and constituents. Facilitate marketing and customer service strategies to increase engagement and Store utilization. Coordinate Store activities with other departments within the University.

5.    Provide leadership for the Store by seeking new markets and business opportunities, including evolving textbook and academic resource and delivery methods.

6.    Ensure standards for quality, customer service, and health and safety are met by providing a safe and clean store environment and implementing loss prevention measures.

Work Experience

·         Progressively responsible experience in retail management and marketing is required.

·         Experience must include at least 5 years of supervising full-time employees.
Experience within college or university retail operations is highly desired.

·         Experience with in-store retailing and online commerce highly preferred.

·         Bachelor’s degree required.

·         Degree in Management, Business Administration, Marketing, Accounting, or related field preferred.

·         National Retailing Foundation (NRF) certification preferred.


Technical Skills

·         POS/Shopify system and infrastructure to ensure proper financial transactions, software upgrades, and customer data.

·         Competence in utilizing accounting, financial reporting, and/or spreadsheets software to produce reports and track results.


Workplace Factors

·         Ability to identify creative solutions, learn independently, embrace change, and function as a change agent.

·         Occasional work on evenings/weekends will be required, according to seasonal needs.

·         Understand, articulate, support, and operationalize the mission of Franciscan University of Steubenville.
