Assistant Director of Strength & Conditioning

The Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach assists with the coordination of strength and conditioning services to university student athletes, developing sport-specific conditioning programs for assigned teams. The appointee also teaches proper weight lifting techniques and encourages and motivates student-athletes to train for performance at the highest level. S/He participates in strength and conditioning staff meetings, collects and utilizes subjective and objective measures to make data driven decisions regarding athlete preparedness and training response, assists with scheduling athletic teams and supervising workouts or rehabilitation programs for student athletes, and ensures compliance with NCAA, NSIC, and university regulations.

Candidates will be invited to demonstrate a willingness to support the Christian, Catholic, Benedictine mission of the University of Mary.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities Include:

• Develops, implements, and monitors sport-specific strength training and speed, agility, and conditioning programs for teams and individual athletes
• Communicates and works in partnership with administration, coaching staff, and athletic training staff to provide an integrated program of injury prevention, performance training, and nutritional planning
• Coordinates training facilities, equipment maintenance, and budget monitoring
• Oversees the weight room and monitors safe lifting techniques of student athletes
• Develops and implements summer programs designed to increase student athlete performance
• Ensures compliance with NCAA and NSIC rules, including those regarding recruitment and eligibility

Desired Minimum Qualifications, Education, and Experience include:

• Required: Bachelor’s degree in exercises science, physiology, sports science, or a related field; CSCCa/SCCC certification and/or NCSA/CSCS certification; CPR and AED certification
• Preferred: Master’s degree, FMS certification, and/or USA weightlifting certification
• Required: A minimum of 2-3 years of experience training student athletes at the collegiate level
• Upholds and supports the Christian, Catholic, Benedictine mission of the University of Mary
• Supports the ongoing implementation of Ex Corde Ecclesiae, the apostolic constitution on Catholic colleges and universities
• Builds a culture of ready and earnest hospitality in the Office of Intercollegiate Athletics and throughout the university, in accord with Saint Benedict’s admonition that all be received as Christ

Knowledge and Skills Required:

• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and oral communication skills
• High enthusiasm
• Knowledge of high performance/Olympic development model
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and data collection
