English and Catholic Studies Faculty

The University of Mary invites applications for a joint faculty position in Catholic Studies and English, to begin in the fall semester, 2024. Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and rank. Rank is open and area of emphasis within English is open, with preference for rhetoric, composition, or medieval or classical literature. Candidates with demonstrated ability to teach and research in the discipline of English while engaging the broader Catholic intellectual tradition are desired. Applicants should excel in teaching, demonstrate evidence of supporting student formation outside of the classroom, and have an active research agenda. The teaching load is 4/4.

This joint-appointment position entails commitment to both the English program and Catholic Studies, a vibrant and apostolic program seeking the education of the whole of a student’s life through community engagement, individual mentoring, and a dedication to initiating students into the Catholic intellectual tradition. The successful candidate is expected to understand, support, and advance the Christian, Catholic, and Benedictine mission and identity of the University of Mary (see http://www.umary.edu/about/mission/missionidentity.php).

The successful candidate will:

• Hold an M.A. degree or higher in English (Ph.D. preferred, ABD candidates will be considered)
• Demonstrate excellence in teaching
• Show evidence of an active research agenda
• Uphold and support the Christian, Catholic, Benedictine mission of the University of Mary
• Support the ongoing implementation of Ex Corde Ecclesiae, the apostolic constitution on Catholic colleges and universities
• Build a culture of ready and earnest hospitality, in accord with Saint Benedict’s admonition that all be received as Christ
