The University of St. Thomas (www.stthom.edu), a private Catholic university committed to the liberal arts and the religious and intellectual tradition of Catholic higher education, located in Houston, Texas, near the vibrant central business district, Texas Medical Center, and museum district, is seeking applicants for a full-time Cook in the Dining Services department.


The position is responsible for cooking and preparing food according to recipes and production guidelines while adhering to food safety, food handling, and sanitation procedures. The individual should safely handle knives and equipment such as grills, fryers, ovens, broilers, other hot surfaces and cooking utensils.

Essential duties and Responsibilities:

Cooks and prepare a variety of food according to production guidelines and standardized recipes.
Sets up workstation with all needed ingredients and equipment.
Prepares ingredients by measuring, weighing, mixing, chopping, trimming, and peeling food items.
Safely utilizes a variety of utensils including knives
Operates equipment such as ovens, stoves, slicers, mixers, etc.
Bakes, roasts, broils, steams, and uses variety of cooking methods on meat, vegetables, and other foods.
Arranges, garnishes, and portions food according to established guidelines.
Properly stores food by adhering to food safety policies and procedures.
Cleans and sanitizes work areas, equipment, and utensils.
Maintains excellent customer service and positive attitude towards guest, customers, clients, co-workers, etc.
Replenishes food items and ensure product is stocked to appropriate levels.
Adheres to University of St. Thomas safety policies and procedures including proper food safety and sanitation.
Ensures security of company assets
Perform other related duties as assigned by manager

High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required
A minimum of 2+ years of experience cooking for 100+ portions or more
Must be Serve Safe certified
Demonstrates interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
Demonstrates an understanding of basic sanitation procedures
Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
Requires constant standing/walking
Requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling of up to 25 lbs.
