Position Overview:

The University of St. Thomas seeks an individual to fill a Senior Finance Planning and Analysis (FP&A) Manager role within the university’s finance team. This position is responsible for leading complex financial analysis, strategic planning, and providing expert insights to guide the university’s financial decision-making. The Senior FP&A collaborates closely with UST leadership and various departments to ensure financial stability, growth, and alignment with institutional objectives.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Financial Planning: Lead the development and execution of long-term financial strategies that align with the university’s mission, goals, and growth initiatives. Provide expert insights into financial trends, market conditions, and economic factors that impact the financial outlook of UST.
Financial Analysis and Modeling: Analyze complex financial data to provide actionable insights and recommendations for resource allocation and investment decisions. Conduct sophisticated financial analysis, including risk assessment, scenario modeling, and sensitivity analysis.
Budgeting and Forecasting: Develop advanced forecasting models to project financial performance and identify potential areas for improvement. Oversee the university’s budgeting process, collaborate with department heads and senior leaders to ensure accurate alignment with strategic priorities.
Capital Planning and Investment Analysis: Evaluate capital investment opportunities and major projects, assessing their financial viability and alignment with the university’s long-term goals. Comprehensive ROA and NPV analyses to support investment decisions.
Financial Reporting and Communication: Prepare and present comprehensive financial reports, analyses, and presentations to UST leadership, Board of Trustees, and other key stakeholders. Ability to clearly communicate complex financial concepts to non-financial audiences.
Risk Management and Compliance: Contribution to the establishment of financial controls and risk management frameworks. Identifying financial risks and development of strategies to mitigate them in compliance with relevant regulatory policies.
Collaboration and Leadership: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, serving as the financial expert and providing guidance on financial implications the UST’s strategic initiatives. Guide and mentor junior level finance professionals, fostering their growth and development.
Process Improvement and Innovation: Drive the implementation of innovative solutions to improve accuracy and efficiency. Identify opportunities to enhance financial processes, data analysis methods, and reporting structures.
Qualifications

Master’s degree desired, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
Minimum 8 years of extensive experience in financial planning, analysis, and strategic decision support, preferably in an academic or university setting.
Proven expert knowledge in financial modeling, scenario analysis, and advanced analysis techniques.
Strong leadership skills and the ability to influence and collaborate with senior leadership.
Excellent communication skills, ability to present complex financial information effectively.
Financial software proficiencies, ERP systems, and data visualization tools.
In-depth understanding of higher education financial management practices, regulations, and compliance requirements.
Strong ethical standards, attention to detail, and commitment to accuracy in financial reporting.
