ABSN Admissions Counselor

 

The University of St. Thomas (UST), a private Catholic University committed to the liberal arts and the religious and intellectual tradition of Catholic higher education, located in Houston, Texas, near the vibrant central business district, Texas Medical Center, and museum district, is seeking applicants for a full-time ABSN Admissions Counselor. This position reports directly to the Associate Director of Undergraduate Admissions.

Summary:

This position serves as a member of the enrollment management team and works closely with the student population of our Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) students focused on admissions responsibilities including recruitment, student interview, presentation of the University to various constituencies in multiple formats, personalized contact with prospective students, and evaluation of applications for admissions.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: (other duties may be assigned)

Represent the University at on- and off-campus admissions-related programs and
Review applications for admissions, analyze qualifications and exercise judgement of
In consultation with the Offices of the Registrar and Academic Advising, evaluate college/university transcripts for applicants for credit equivalencies and a1ticulation within institutional
Conduct interviews with prospective students, providing accurate information regarding
admissions standards, the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, student life, cost and financial aid.

Implement follow-up activities including written and electronic correspondence and telephone
Plan and execute special projects in conjunction with the goals and objectives of the
Works closely with members of the admissions leadership team in the development,
implementation and evaluation of the university’s strategic recruitment plan and leverage/analysis of enrollment data in the decision making process.

 

QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS:

Undergraduate degree
Minimum of three years of experience as an admissions counselor, admissions recruiter, academic advisor, or related position required. Familiarity with nursing programs a plus.
Strong and inspirational communication (verbal and written) skill
Vibrant outgoing personality is preferred.
 

Effective organization skills with good attention to detail with the demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple activities.
Demonstrated ability to effectively problem- solve on a team and individual basis.
Knowledge of the University of Thomas culture and ability to represent and communicate the university mission to prospective students and families.
Ability to develop collegial and productive working relationships with University
administrators, faculty, staff, and students.

Ability to work in a goal driven and measured performance environm
Demonstrated ability to work well to meet deadlines
A valid driver’s license.
Must be able to work extended hours or weekends during peak times and for special programs, projects and events.
Travel is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position is in an active office atmosphere and one must have the ability to climb stairs and do some light lifting (up to 20 pounds).
