Coordinator for Counseling Training Clinic

Clinical Mental Health Counseling

The University of St. Thomas (UST), a private Catholic University committed to the liberal arts and the religious and intellectual tradition of Catholic higher education, located in Houston, Texas, near the vibrant central business district, Texas Medical Center, and museum district, is seeking applicants for a full-time Coordinator for Counseling Training Center. This position reports directly to the Director of the Counseling Training Clinic within the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program.

The Coordinator for the Counseling Training Clinic provides support for the supervision and counseling functions of the Clinic and for projects assigned to them.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide support for special projects as assigned by the Director;
Responsible for counselor-in-training clinical and professional skill-building and growth;
Collaborate closely with the Director and facilitate individual and group supervision sessions for counselors-in-training;
Conduct counselor-in-training consultations; provide training as requested;
Review recorded counseling sessions to discuss with counselors-in-training
Provide crisis intervention assistance to counselors-in-training as needed including occasional on-call accessibility by telephone outside business hours;
Maintain front desk phones, scheduling, clinic email and mail, and greet visitors;
Assist with maintenance of records and follow confidential procedures;
Maintain direct contact with University faculty and staff, as well as outside vendors;
Promote and coordinate clinic initiatives to support the Clinic, including preparation for scheduled outreach and other events;
Acquire thorough knowledge of University structure, policies and procedures;
Maintain off-campus community resources for mental health referrals;
Organize and maintain Clinic website, social media accounts, and other promotional materials;
Maintain office supplies and readiness;
Request technology and physical maintenance as needed and monitor progress;
Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise and train counselors-in-training, monitor performance, ensure accuracy of their work assignments, complete and sign all clinical mental health practicum and internship documentations, monitor timesheets, remain up to date in supervisor requirements for CMHC partnership.
Qualifications:

A Master’s Degree required in counseling, psychology, or social work;
Licensed mental health professional in the State of Texas; LPC, licensed psychologist, or Licensed CSW required;
A minimum of two years’ experience in providing counseling services to an adult population required; experience in a college or university counseling center preferred;
Highly competent in professional, ethical and legal standards in the field of mental health;
Competence in and commitment to working with a multicultural populations;
Demonstrate a high degree of knowledge about mental health issues;
Effective and proficient oral and written communication skills;
Good organizational skills and the abilities to multi-task;
Familiarity with greater Houston area community mental health resources;
Computer skills that include working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint), database management, and familiarity with online research protocol; experience with Titanium and PeopleSoft preferred;
Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding client interactions and records; ability to make appropriate referrals;
Capable of effectively managing counselors-in-training;
Ability to remain calm and organized in a fast-paced mental health office;
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to adapt communication to interface appropriately with others in distress and/or with individuals who may show limitations in their communication style;
Creative and innovative. Able to work independently and collaboratively with on and off campus resources;
Ability to organize and prioritize work and projects demonstrating the abilities to multi-task.
Ability to efficiently organize and maintain filing systems;
Working Conditions:

Ability to sit for long periods of time;
Ability to attend and concentrate at length.
