Student Conduct and Success Specialist


The University of St. Thomas (www.stthom.edu), a private Catholic university, located in Houston, Texas, the nation’s fourth largest city, adjacent to the Texas Medical Center, the Museum District, and the vibrant central business downtown area, committed to the liberal arts and to the religious and intellectual tradition of Catholic higher education, is seeking a full-time Student Conduct and Success Specialist. The position reports directly to the Assistant Dean of Students and partners closely with the Director of Freshmen Symposium.

Position Summary

The Student Conduct & Success Specialist is a member of the Student Affairs team and serves as a bridge between the Dean of Students Office and the First Year Experience. This position will hear student conduct cases and utilize a Catholic, restorative justice framework to support those with conduct cases and help them grow and engage with the University. This position will actively contribute towards furthering our Student Affairs Board of Trustee charges to strengthen UST’s (a) Catholic mission and faith integration efforts, and (b) student success efforts.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

Adjudicate student conduct and grievance reports sent through the Maxient system
Serve as the University liaison for the Maxient system and all its analytics, including keeping track of updates, available trainings, usage, and statistical reports
Participate in the Title IX process, including but not limited to serving as a Title IX investigator and advisor
Collaborate on updating and maintaining the UST Code of Student Conduct
Spearhead collaborative efforts to enhance student persistence
Serve as a member of Early Alert/Retention team to support students and make interventions as appropriate
Advise the Chief Justice (student leader position) and coordinate campus-wide student elections in the fall and spring semesters
Oversee a peer educator model that can be utilized across campus
Lead aspects of the Mendenhall Summer Institute, including the creation and distribution of marketing materials
Create and oversee outreach efforts and marketing efforts for the Deans of Students & First Year Experience, including a social media engagement strategy
Spearhead, in coordination with the Dean of Students office, programmatic events that partner with academic colleges to enhance student persistence and engagement
Partner with Freshman Symposium planning committee to help plan, design, and deliver the Freshman Symposium (FYE) course each fall
Provide administrative leadership on FYE initiatives, including ROAR Days, Freshman Symposium, Success Coaching, service-learning, FYE Study Abroad, and Living and Learning Community
Plan, design, and assess Success Coaching models stemming from Freshman Symposium
Meet on a regular basis with the Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Freshman Symposium
Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge and skills:

A Bachelor’s degree is required. A Master’s degree in Higher Education or a related field is preferred.
Minimum of two years of direct experience with student conduct issues, policies, and programs required. Experience utilizing student conduct software is preferred.
Intermediate level of proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Google Suites is required. Experience using Canva and Adobe Spark is preferred.
Experience in the creation of marketing materials (flyers, slide decks, etc.) is preferred.
Demonstrated dedication toward pursuing a career in higher education student support services.
Demonstrates a clear understanding of UST’s Catholic mission.

Working conditions:

This position will require occasional irregular office hours including after-hours and weekend work to attend student meetings and events. Office hours will be established in consultation with the Assistant Dean of Students and may include a virtual component. Physical requirements are those of a typical office.
