Position Summary

The University of St. Thomas (www.stthom.edu), a private Catholic university, located in Houston, Texas, the nation’s fourth largest city, committed to the liberal arts and to the religious and intellectual tradition of Catholic higher education, is seeking an Admissions Counselor Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Enrollment. In collaboration with the The Kolbe School of Innovation and Professional Studies, under the supervision of the Associate Director of Undergraduate Admission, this position will focus on developing recruiting strategies to attract potential students to the Associate of Applied Science programs. The person who occupies this role should demonstrate the required depth of experience and results needed to effectively generate the expected enrollment results.


JOB SUMMARY: This position serves as a member of the enrollment management team and incorporates a full range of associate of applied sciences student focused admissions responsibilities including recruitment travel, student interview, presentation of the University to various constituencies in multiple formats, personalized contact with prospective students, parents, advisors and guidance counselors, corporate partners and professionals and evaluation of applications for admissions.


Works with the Associate Director for AAS Enrollment on implementation and execution of strategies that drive AAS enrollment at UST.
Represent the University at on- and off-campus admissions-related programs and events, corporate gatherings to develop pipelines for potential AAS students seeking upskilling and re-skilling.
Review applications for admissions, analyze qualifications and exercise judgment of admissibility. Engages in frequent follow up with inquiries and applicants to facilitate transition through the admission funnel and eventual enrollment at UST.
Conduct interviews with prospective students and parents, providing accurate information regarding admissions standards, academic and related programs, student life, cost and financial aid.
Implement follow-up activities including written and electronic correspondence and telephone calls.
Plan and execute special projects in conjunction with the goals and objectives of the office.
Collaborates with leadership from the Kolbe School of Innovation and Professional studies on goal setting and strategic tactics to achieve enrollment goals of AAS students.
Other recruiting and admissions related duties may be assigned.


Effective and strong communication (verbal and written) skills required.

Knowledge of the University of St. Thomas culture and ability to represent and communicate the university mission to prospective students and families.

Outgoing personality essential to effectively interact with others on an individual or group level
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills are essential.
Ability to work in a goal driven and measured performance environment.

The ability to organize and effectively handle multiple projects and assignments is essential.

Must be able to work extended hours or weekends on a regular basis and for special programs, project and events.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree required with an emphasis in marketing, business, human resources, and related fields is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This position is in an active office atmosphere and one must have the ability to climb stairs and do some light lifting (up to 20 pounds).
