The University of St. Thomas (www.stthom.edu), a private Catholic university, located in Houston, Texas, the nation’s fourth largest city, committed to the liberal arts and to the religious and intellectual tradition of Catholic higher education, is seeking a full-time Online Student Success Coach in the Kolbe School of Innovation and Professional Studies. The position reports directly to the Dean of the Kolbe School.


Position Summary

The Online Student Success Coach will closely with students enrolled in courses offered by the Kolbe School. They will work to support and advise them in their educational studies and other related activities.


Serve as the primary point of contact for all students enrolled in courses and programs offered by the Kolbe School.

Provide support through one-to-one and small group coaching sessions and individual student success plans

Conduct student academic interventions as needed

Co-create and distribute communications to all program participants

Plan programming and other outreach initiatives to program participants

Assist with programmatic planning, implementation, and evaluation

Partner with faculty members in the program on issues that impact student success

Build and supervise a peer-support program for students in the program

Participate in cross-departmental committee(s) that focus on executing strategies identified as priorities for moving the needle on student success outcomes

Create and proactively deliver training materials that students need during their educational journey in such a way that anticipates their needs

Develop synergetic partnerships with other units on campus on areas that affect academic success

Help design a system that identifies and proactively supports the “murky middle” students within the program

Build a tailored Early Alert system that effectively conducts timely interventions with students who are off class sequence or who are showing signs of academic risk

Perform other related duties/



An undergraduate degree required with preference given to degrees in education, counseling, or liberal arts. A Master’s degree preferred.

Minimum of 2 years of direct experience advising, coaching, or mentoring students in a college or university setting required.

Willingness to embrace and advance the Catholic mission of UST is required

Intermediate level of proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is required

Ability to speak and write in Spanish fluently is strongly preferred

Previous experience working with non-traditional students is preferred

Demonstrated ability to relate well to diverse groups of individuals with a focus on service

Must be able to effectively multi-task, establish priorities, and work under deadlines.


Working conditions:

This position may require work outside of traditional office hours to support student needs. Office hours will be established in consultation with Dean of the Kolbe School of Innovation and Professional studies. Fully or partial remote work is available. Physical requirements are those of a typical office.
