President /CEO Job Description
The Office of the President has as its primary purpose to provide overall leadership and vision for West
Catholic High School to achieve the fullest attainment of the school’s unique Catholic mission to form
Disciples of Christ through a dynamic, excellence-driven Catholic education. The President/CEO will
lead in the Church’s mission to evangelize and make decisions viewed through the lens of the Catholic
faith. He/she will be responsible for overseeing all operations at West Catholic High School, Catholic
identity, instruction, institutional advancement, enrollment and marketing, financial planning and
oversight, Board, Diocesan and community relations, facilities, and auxiliary services.
Specific Duties
● Reports to the Superintendent/Canonical Administrator with input from the Board of Directors
● Oversees all school operations with the Principal, Directors of Development, Admissions, Dining
Services, Marketing and Communications, and the Building and Grounds Supervisor, Facilities
and Custodial Manager and administrative assistants.
● Leads the Development team, with a lead role in planned giving and major gifts
● Directs any Capital Campaigns
● Guides and mentors, the Principal, ensuring fulfillment of our mission and vision
● Oversees community relations, creating and maintaining a dynamic, excellence-driven,
Christ-centered image
● Works with the Grand Rapids Catholic Secondary Schools (GRCSS) central business office and
the Diocese in financial matters, including financial aid, foundation and non-endowed
scholarships, tuition collection, yearly budgets, audit, and long-term financial viability
● Utilizes the Board of Directors and its Committees for expertise, direction, and support
● Is responsible for long-term planning and vision, including strategic planning
● Acts as chief spokesperson for West Catholic, providing visible, personal leadership to the
school community, articulating, and promoting our mission and vision
● Is responsible for continued marketing and growing enrollment
● Oversees facilities, including maintenance, cleaning, and all capital projects
● Works in conjunction with the Principal for MNSAA accreditation, The Cardinal Newman Society
Schools of Excellence process, and other recognition-granting professional organizations
● Assumes final responsibility for the selection, supervision, and retention of all school employees
● Supervises all direct reports and ensures proper supervision of all employees
● Works with the Diocese and legal counsel where necessary, also serving as the Title IX Director
for the school
● Works with the Canonical Administrator and Chaplains on sensitive matters that could affect our
ability to conduct our mission or the mission of the Church

Required Education/Skills/Experience:
● Master’s Degree
● Five years of proven leadership experience
● Two years demonstrated experience of successful financial decision making, budgeting, and
fiscal management
● Advanced degree in Business Management, or Administrative Certification preferred
● Must have or be willing to obtain an Advanced Catechetical Certification within two years of
Physical Requirements:
Able to work in a physically demanding fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
Able to remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
Direct Reports:
Building Principal, Director of Admissions, International Student Coordinator, Communications,
Development, Dining Services, and Building and Grounds.
Exempt. The position requires night and/or weekend commitments. May require travel.

About West Catholic High School

West Catholic High School is a Grand Rapids Diocesan school located in the northwest corner of the
City of Grand Rapids. Its sprawling campus sits on 44 acres surrounded by trees. Established in 1962,
it is a co-educational college preparatory institution providing a dynamic Catholic culture for excellent
academic instruction, faith formation and a wide range of extracurricular activities. West Catholic has a
100% graduation rate, with 94% of our students attending institutions of higher education. West
Catholic currently has approximately 470 enrolled students; however, class sizes remain small,
averaging 17 students per section. Offerings include 19 Advanced Placement classes and a number of
dual enrollment courses taught on campus by professors from Aquinas College. West Catholic is the
only school on the west side of the state to be named to The Cardinal Newman Society’s Catholic
Education Honor Roll each year since 2007. Students continue to achieve the highest SAT/ACT test
scores in West Michigan (excluding schools utilizing selective enrollment).
